MOF Japanese Cafe @ Sunway Pyramid

MOF Japanese Cafe at Sunway Pyramid has been there for a long time. It's only recently that we managed to pay it the overdue visit. MOF actually stands for Ministry of Food which is a Singapore restaurant brand chain specialising in Japanese food. When it opened in Malaysia, I was pretty excited. I had a taste of MOF in Singapore and it was really good! So I had a certain high expectation.

To be honest, we visited the place months ago and in the midst of everything else, I published everything else and left this in the storage. I did not want any photos to go wasted so I dug them out and decided to do a post on them. The photos were not so up to par for we were still practising a lot with the camera. Mind you, we still are practising with the camera. Life is a lifelong learning right? ;)

Since it's a Japanese Cafe, they actually serve a variety of desserts. Their main selling point is their Japan Hokkaido Gelato, which you can easily notice while walking down the mall since the Kiosk is situated in the middle of the entire bridge.

Many popular Japanese flavours to pick from.

SALMON ABURI MAKI RM14.80 - Japanese cucumber and omelette topped with half grilled salmon, mayonnaise and shrimp roe.

The half grilled salmon is fresh. I love the slight smoked taste emitting from the Salmon and it certainly helps to enliven the otherwise very ordinary rice roll (sushi) that comes with it.

TORI KARAGE SET RM17.80 - Deep- fried chicken topped with mayonnaise sauce, chicken dumplings, assorted salad & Japanese rice served with bean paste soup.

This bento set is filling and enjoyable with the crispy fried chicken that never goes wrong with a good amount of mayonnaise. I mean, who doesn't love fried food right? It takes a lot of control to say "NO". Now I finally get where the hell all these fats on my body comes from.

TERIYAKI CHICKEN RAMEN RM14.80 -Sautéed teriyaki chicken & assorted vegetables.

It's an edible fish and personally I find that the soup base is slightly saltier for my taste. It's a good dish for those who are hungry as they are pretty generous with ramen portion. It's hard to comment about the quality of ramen apart from being normal, it doesn't taste bad but it's not special enough for me to give a thumb up.

3 SCOOP HOKKAIDO GELATO WAFFLE RM16.50

You have never tried Japanese Ice Cream until you had at least the Green Tea flavour and the Black Sesame one. If I remember correctly, some of the flavours had ran out on the day of visit, so we settled with the more common flavours namely Chocolate, Vanilla and Black Sesame.

Don't underestimate these common flavours, they are here for a reason and you could easily tell if their ice cream is a real deal just by tasting the Vanilla or Chocolate ice cream. And to my delightful surprise, the ice creams are good, much better than main courses themselves. The black sesame ice cream is rich in flavours, just as good as the other two flavours.

It's a little sad that the food doesn't not live up to my expectations and certainly what I had in Singapore seemed to fare better, their desserts are a killer though, slightly overpriced for the quality as a lot of competitors out there could do very well or even better with the same pricing. If I have to comment about my experience dining in MOF Japanese cafe in one sentence? It would be: Get the desserts, forget the rest. :)
